The Best Time to Whale Watch – 27/4/22

In my opinion, spring is the best time to go whale watching. Not only are the Humpback Whales coming back very hungry, but we sometimes get treated to some of the more rare species, like Sei Whales, as well.

Over the past couple of weeks the number of Sei Whale sightings have been increasing and among them is a mother and calf pair! The 2022 season is my 22nd season and this is the first time I’ve ever seen a Sei Whale calf. Not only that, but this pair has been seen several times over the span of several days! This is a truly remarkable sighting and one that I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to see for myself! This photos is the Sei Whale calf along with a White-Sided Dolphin.

  1. So cool! I adore the picture of the calf and dolphin next to each other. I had never heard of Sei Whales before, thanks for sharing!
