Sunshine and Orcas – 12/4/21

Our fjord is full of herring at the moment which makes it also full of Orcas, who are mostly herring eaters here in Iceland.

We got to do a tour yesterday with just a small number of passengers but plenty of whales. They were out in the deeper water, something we see at this time of year, before they often move closer in to the shallows later in the year.

We had sunshine one side of the boat, a somewhat rare commodity in Iceland at times, while we had amazing, dramatic rainbow cloud the other side. One of the things that makes seeing and photographing orcas in Iceland so great is the awesome light and beautiful scenery you can get in the background.
