Sunset Tour with Orcas and Humpbacks – 27/8/25

We headed out for an evening tour out of Victoria BC. We headed south west out of the harbour.

When we met with the T075B’s, they were just milling around in the strait of Juan de Fuca. At one time the family came close to the other boat (their engines were off) and the newest member of the family T075B5 popped up right along mom.

After some milling around the waves started to pick up and some large swells started, next thing we knew, the family was starting to surf and porpoise in the waves!

The youngsters were fully going for it but T075B was taking it slower with her youngest. After they spent some time surfing they stumbled upon some dinner. They were all tight together before some surface activity happened including one of them doing a little headstand before they all met into an area. At the end after they all started to split up again, one of them spyhopped before continuing to travel.

After the orcas we went west further into the strait and after a visit at Race Rocks we came across some humpbacks who were just coming up for a few breaths before diving again.

We continued along the coastline where we saw Waldo the sea otter among the kelp bed near an island, he was curious about us but wanted to keep the distance, sticking his head far out of the water before diving and swimming further away.

We only slowed as we ran along side the island before continuing into a bay to catch the sunset. We were surprised by a lone humpback who was lunge feeding with the common murres.

After a few moments with the whale in the sunset we headed back for the night.
