Start of the Summer Season – 4/6/26

Amazing news!!! We have started our 4th summer season from Bleik, Andøya 🙂

We had amazing sightings with pilot whales, sperm whales, and, of course, puffins 🙂

The evenings have been very peaceful lately, and we have spent time with the pilot whales. One evening, the conditions were so calm that we could switch off the engine and just float around the pilot whales. We could hear them from the boat as they vocalized underwater; it was such a fascinating experience. Look how one of the whales looked up to have a glimpse at us.

We also met a pilot whale (presumably a female) that had a very strange “condition”. Her tail fluke is fully curved, but upwards.

Almost creates a heart shape. Seemingly, the animal can swim properly. I managed to get great photos of it from different angles.

We have observed several times, fully grown male orcas with curved tail flukes as they age, but the orca’s tail fluke bends down.

This is the first time I have observed an animal with an upwardly curved tail fluke.

Has anybody seen such a fluke before?

We will continue to post updates on how our season goes ❤

Enjoy the photos!
