Spectacular Humpback Encounter! – 15/9/16

I took a great group of students from Vancouver out for a tour today (with GPO Charters) and we were treated to some spectacular whale behaviour!

Spent an hour watching four humpbacks continuously fin slap and breach their way across Trevor Channel.

Slapped and breached fairly consistently for the hour we watched them

Please note that this boat maintained a respectful distance in order to not disturb the whales. One of the whales eventually swam right beside it while continuing to slap the water. What an amazing sight! Always remember to give them lots of space out there and you can still have a great encounter.

It seemed like a lot of energy to spend, I would think perhaps they were feeding by trying to stun schools of fish?
