An Encounter with Some Rare Bigg’s (Transient) Killer Whales – 2/6/15

Pretty cool to see new Bigg’s (Transient) Killer Whales today! Rare visitors, the T125’s were seen with the T65A’s It’s the first time I have ever seen this group, apparently, they haven’t been seen in our area since the 90’s. They spend most of their lives in Alaskan waters but came down for a little visit to British Columbia and hang out with some of our locals, the T65As.

T123 and T127
It’s not known what happened to T127’s fin but the scarring looks like a propeller injury which he has had since a young age

It’s amazing how much more banged up Biggs killer whales look from their prey.

T127
T127’s fluke is also pretty beat up. Lots of pieces missing and scars all over. You can see on the right tip, there is a fresh seal scar.
