Welcome everybody to the 2024 / 2025 winter whale watching season in Northern Norway.
This year is notable since the herring and whales arrived in the fjords quite early.
There have been whale sightings since early October…
Today was our first day on the water. We took the boat for a test run before we officially kicked off with guests on November 1st.
It was a blast. There were lots of orcas and humpback whales everywhere we looked.
Strangely, quite big commercial fishing vessels are already inside the fjord. Based on previous years’ experience, they are allowed to come inside later.
As I said, this year is already exceptional.
The orcas seemed and smelled to be well-fed and in a social mood.
We had a juvenile playing around the boat for quite some time, slapping the pectoral fins multiple times.
We have seen familiar fins already, like Frøya.
