It was an overcast day at the end of May, and my first time going whale watching. I was boiling over with excitement, I was a whale nerd and my dreams of seeing whales were about to come true.

We traveled over toward San Juan Island then into Rosario Strait where we met up with J, K and L pod. We spent most of our time with members of J pod.

The whales were traveling slowly close to shore heading west. L87, J27 and J8 were traveling together with J2 following close behind. The J22’s including J32 were farther offshore and there was a lot of breaching going on. Near the end of our encounter J28 surfaced, and she became the first whale I could I.D.
