I was lucky to be a witness to L Pod’s historic return to Penn Cove today, 54 years post capture.
As L Pod approached the entrance to the cove, I kept waiting for them to turn south and go back down Saratoga Passage.
The turn never materialized, and they went in.
They passed the Coupeville Wharf, but flipped before making it to the actual location of the captures.
The next day, they returned to the cove and went ALL the way in.
They also spent several hours at the far end of the cove.
I feel quite humbled and grateful to have been able to witness their return.
The reason they picked today to make their trip is a mystery, but we enthusiastically welcome them back.
