Kayaking with Dolphins – 25/7/20

I was out kayaking in my duo boat with a friend. The Bottlenose dolphins took us into their slipstream and took us on a wild ride. It happened near my home, here in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand.

These dolphins had just towed the boat for miles in their slipstream, then began hunting nearby.

I distinctly felt that the dolphins picked up my nervousness about crossing the shallow reef. They responded by guiding us across. Their bodies being way deeper than my kayak I knew I could trust them.

It’s usually dolphins riding in the slipstream of a boat. This time it was humans riding the dolphin’s slipstream.
