J Pod in Active Pass – 7/9/16

It had been almost a year since I had seen the residents and while I enjoyed getting to to know the Bigg’s (Transient) Killer Whales, I couldn’t wait to see the residents again. After a week of whale watching without seeing them I had given up until the 7th.

I remember our naturalist (Dan Clarke, a great naturalist!)  saying ” I hear they’re in Active Pass”, so we went there with our brand new boat and what a show they gave us! That day we witness every single behaviour I could think of, breaching, pec and tail slap and much more. But what was the most breathtaking was seeing J Pod swimming together in groups of 5-6. We followed them from a distance for a good hour until it was time to say goodbye

Also that day I was the one who ID’d J2 “Granny” and confirmed it was J Pod. I kinda liked that the naturalist was counting on me to take ID the whales and take good ID shots!
