Today we have spent the morning together with a group of orcas…they were traveling in mesmerizing polar lights.
We have not seen them feeding and after a while, we decided to go look for humpback whales.
We found 5-6 individuals in the middle of the fjord.
After their second dive, we were already close to the end of the day, so we agreed to wait for them just one more time Its always just one more time
I heard the blows from the back of the boat. I was looking at them and had a strange thought, that these humpback whales seem to be a bit “too big”….
That’s when I realized we are actually looking at 5-6 fin whales swimming by with 7-8 knots.
Fin whales are known to be shy around boats, we have not seen them from so close before. As we were floating, they passed next to us, quite close.
They are known to be the second-largest animal on the planet, but you only realize their size, when they are close.
They are enormous!!! 3-4 times the size of the boat!!
It was hard to frame them in one image, because by the time the dorsal fin is up, the head is gone
Luckily, I managed to capture a couple of nice images from them
Another unforgettable experience
Enjoy!
