Face to Face with a Blue Whale – 23/6/24

We were hanging out on the boat eating ceviche enjoying some of the bottom Spinner Dolphins playing in the bay when we heard an extremely loud and powerful blow coming from right next to the boat.

Everyone’s eyes turned and lit up to the massive blue whale which was at the time 20 meters away.

We then watch the blue whales tail tuck back into the ocean but not for a dive as it was swimming from north to the south part of Baja in the sea of Cortez.

Frantically we all started to scream and almost cry watching the amazing animal coming so close to say hi. We then lunched the drone to watch its next surfacing which was about 5 minutes later at an extremely slow rate of speed.

This is not our first encounter with the blue whale but by far the closest we have ever seen them from the boat and the slowest we have watched them move.
