The past few days have been quite busy with multiple cetacean species.
One day, we encountered a small group of Risso’s dolphins that were riding the swell next to our boat.
It was a lovely gesture by these dolphins, because it was a bit difficult to spot the sperm whales in the swell
We casually followed the animals for a while, and the dolphins eventually led us to a sperm whale resting on the surface.
We were with our friends from Arctic Whale Tours, the sperm whale was super calm and we could see lifting his fluke high up in the air.
Orcas are still around…..We have heard some rumors that they are harassing the sperm whales in the area. Pods of orcas have been observed a couple of times in close vicinity to the sperm whales in the past few days. Unfortunately, we have not seen it yet, but hopefully this will also come.
We have spent a fantastic evening with the orcas in mesmerizing light.
A female jumped right next to the boat, which was terrific but a bit too close You can see the back of the orca quite well.
Soon we are getting towards the end of our summer season, but there are still 10 days left, and we hope to continue to have amazing encounters.
