Yesterday, this young calf was observed blowing bubbles at the surface and she would surface through them as if she were feeding. I don’t know for sure if there was really food at the surface or if she were just going through the motions and practicing, but she was very focused on this behavior and repeated it almost the entire time that we were watching. I absolutely love watching calves playing and learning how to be a whale!
Today we also got incredible looks at Valley’s 2023 calf learning and playing around. Here she is with a nice head-to-fluketip stretch – They are quickly becoming my favorite of 2023!
