Bigg’s (Transient) Killer Whales in the Sunset – 22/3/18

It was almost the end of the day on Swanson Island when I saw blow in distance, for sure in Johnstone Strait. And then another one. I ran to take binoculars to see who is out there. I saw two orcas. It’s been a while since I saw them so we went out by boat. It’s always so nice to see people stop doing their work just because I want to spent the rest of the evening with whales.

We came to Johnstone Strait, surrounded with beautiful sunset after snow storm on mainland. We stopped, turned off the engine and wait. It wasn’t too long when I spotted them again.

At first they were shy and keeping distance, of course, but after a while they came closer to see us and ‘say hi’. You can’t describe that moment with proper words, is just too magnificent. After spending maybe ten minutes together, they swam away, straight to the sunset and we went back home.

It was the perfect end to the day.
