Today on our boat, Tim and I started off the morning visiting with orcas T065A5 “Indy” and T065A3 “Amira” brothers with the nickname the Lost Boys as they have been traveling without the rest of their family for a bit.
We lost them after a few minutes so we went on to see if we could find some grays which we found at the SE end of Hat Island.
As we were watching the grays, we saw Swiftsure getting closer, they had been with the orcas, but they were heading straight for us! The orcas decided to harass the grays, 2 on 2!! I only got one shot with Amira and the 2 grays as most of the action was happening underwater.
The grays (CRC2557 & CRC2259) stayed side by side and rolled and tail swirled to keep Indy and Amira at bay.
The orcas would swim away like no big deal and then turn and charge back over to the grays. It lasted about 15 minutes but was still an intense encounter!!
Happy my grays were okay!! I’ve seen CRC22 “Earhart” take on T137A “Jack” before and it did not end well for him, lol, so I know the grays can defend themselves! May 11
