Beautiful Moment with Humpbacks – 2/25

It was a calm day in the Gulf of California. We had spotted a humpback whale with her calf in the area. They were swimming slowly, taking calm breaths. The young whale still had a dark grey coloration and seemed playful, surfacing often and trying to practice some tail slapping.

We stopped the motor and floated in the calm sea, observing them from afar. Suddenly, the calf surfaced, facing our way, and swam right towards our boat. It came closer and closer, we couldn´t believe it when it surfaced right next to us! We could see it so clearly: its eyes were staring at us, wondering what we were. It passed even another time as close as this one, then mum came over and retook him on their path as if saying “Enough play time around the humans, time to continue my baby”.

We felt so lucky for these beautiful moments, for seeing this giant baby so close to us, being part of its life for a bit, seeing it so interested in what these weird creatures were doing….Oh baby humpbacks, you are the cutest!
