Arctic Light – 11/11/23

Today was a perfect day for whale watching. The weather was calm, and we had intense lights and colors.

We met a pod of orcas fairly early in the morning and observed them from a distance during the day.

In the beginning, they kept a tight formation, resting. We observed them from a distance.

Some of the young ones were still active and playing around.

Later on, they became more spread out, probably scanning the fjord for some herring, and at one point, they turned up the speed to rush somewhere. We kept up with them.

As soon as we arrived with them, we spotted two humpback whales, and a short and small feeding unfolded. It lasted only a short time. The orcas moved on after 10 – 15 minutes, and we had to head back towards the harbor.

We saw some familiar fins within the pod, returnees from the previous season. It is always good to see orcas returning to this feeding ground

Enjoy!
