A Unique Encounter with Abyss – 19/8/20

After being landlocked for several days due to an offshore storm that passed through the area, I was finally able to get out there today and what an incredible day it was! In the afternoon we came across a whale known as Abyss who appeared to be “kelping” (or playing with seaweed), but once we got a closer look we realized it was not seaweed. It was a Lion’s Mane Jellyfish that Abyss was toying around with!

This was something that I’d never seen before nor the crew members of 7 Seas Whale Watch! Here are a few photos of Abyss lifting the Jellyfish out of the water using his (or her) head.
