Tonight I had the Lime Kiln hydrophone playing as I attempted to sleep. At 3:30am I started being able to hear echolocation, so I grabbed some things, hopped in my car, and drove down to Western Preserve, while listening to the hydrophone. As I neared the parking spot, their calls got louder and louder. Once I parked, I could hear them breathing all around. I sat all alone on the bluff and listened to them breathing until the hydrophone went silent and I could no longer hear their blows. I’ve been living on the island this summer and have had some remarkable experiences, but this was incredible.
I’m including a recording I took of the hydrophone just before I got to the bluff. Also a recording of some of the breaths I heard.
