The 2021 whale watching season was scheduled to kick off on Saturday, but due to the weather it was canceled. Not to worry though because we DID make it out yesterday and what a fantastic trip it was!
We saw Atlantic White-sided Dolphins all throughout the trip, a single Fin Whale, several Gray Seals, and at least 30 Humpback Whales! This is my 21st season of whale watching and I’ve NEVER seen this number of whales on the opening trip. The Humpback Whales stole the show. They were split up into several larger feeding associations and everywhere you looked you could see them surging around. On a couple of occasions they surfaced just feet from the boat giving us incredible looks.
It felt amazing being back out there again and seeing these incredible animals doing what they do once again. Hopefully this is just a sign of what’s to come in 2021!
